Your husband's comments about the French Resistance were really interesting and made me want to know more.

One of the strongest memories of Normandy for me was looking at the crosses and seeing the ages of the soldiers - 19, 20, sometimes even younger. It truly is humbling to realize the price they paid for freedom.

And although we didn't have any relatives at D-Day ourselves, Andrew looked up the grave of a co-worker's uncle. He never talked about any facet of the war except for the trouble he and two buddies got into during leave much later. He borrowed a general's jeep one night in Singapore. LOL. He fed so much information in such a way that the Germans thought it was all real and he became indispensible. The British controlled him, gave him enough information that was fact that the Germans bought it, and they cast aside other reports in his favour. For weeks after D-Day, they were still believing the information he was sending along about an invasion at Calais.

I've always found it ironic that Eisenhower's final decision to launch Overlord came down to the weather forecast.

And so much of my country's history is caught up in that day and what was to follow.
